Mat Colors - aesthetic value

Once toned my prints usually have a cool magenta cast to them overall but not always. Much depends on the darkroom paper itself, which usually has a green cast.


The mat color is an important part of the photograph - it can greatly compliment it. Here I mat a photograph, deciding on the best complimenting off-white color. A cool cream color seems best, but warm white works well also.

Black and White Photography in Three Formats

Working in 35mm, 6x6 and 5x4 inch almost entirely in Black and White Negative I'm starting to refine the printing!

Justice to the fine separation of highlight and shadow values in this print is not possible.
